Lewis Hamilton Plays a Burglar in Mercedes-AMG Project One Teaser

We don't know about you, but if the Mercedes-AMG Project ONE were the only premiere at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show, we'd still be quite excited about the automotive event next month.

It is going to be the company's first proper venture into supercar territory, only the Germans might go one up and jump straight into the thin air of the hypercar stratosphere. And what a venture it will be: the Project ONE is as close as you can get to a road-legal Formula One car, bar the open body.

Quite a lot is known about the upcoming hypercar - or at least we think so - after Mercedes-AMG unveiled its powertrain back in May. It'll get a super high-revving 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 engine (that can go as high as 11,000 rpm, so imagine the sound) and four electric motors (or three) for a total of over 1,000 horsepower.

Compare this to the Bugatti Chiron and you have that Arya Stark vs. Brianne of Tarth (non-Game of Thrones fans are advised to just read on) sparring closely reproduced in the automotive world. We just can't wait for all the drag races that will follow the introduction of the Project ONE, even though this car will best be used on a twisty track.

Nobody knows what the vehicle looks like apart from a silhouette that features in one of the teasers showing curvy lines and a top air scoop. What we do know is that it has nothing to do with the white prototype features in the image of the Mercedes-Benz stand in Frankfurt, though.

The clip below won't cast any more light on the design of the Project ONE - in fact, it doesn't reveal anything in particular except for the fact that Mercedes-AMG sees this model as the beginning of a new era. Linking the hypercar to the AMG 300 SEL 6.8, "the car that started it all" is a clear way of marking the importance of the Project ONE.

As for Lewis Hamilton, well he's just there all hooded up carrying a duffel bag as if he's not planning to leave empty-handed (or maybe he has his racing overall in there). He looks through the window of the classic AMG 300 SEL 6.8 like a teenage fanboy before he opens up a hidden door (but with a keypad next to it) using a retina scanner.

As we've said, even with Lewis' flat delivery, we're extremely excited about the Project ONE. It may be a super-exclusive hypercar built in extremely low numbers and with an enormous price tag attached to it, but it's something completely different from a manufacturer who's been churning out excellent models one after another. Only a few days left until the launch. Only a few looong days.
