The second day of the final pre-season Formula 1 test was concluded today by the Mercedes-AMG Petronas team with Lewis Hamilton taking the wheel of the F1 W05 car.
The Sakhir International Circuit in Bahrain wasn't too kind to the Mercedes-AMG single-seater, as Lewis came back slightly disappointed at the end of the day.

The program for the day started off with a race simulation in the morning, while the afternoon was dedicated to car setup work by the engineers.

Hamilton started his first run at 09:04 Bahrain time, managing to complete 61 uneventful laps until the lunch break at 13:00.

In the afternoon he completed another 28 laps, before a problem with the transmission ended his runs an hour and a half earlier than planned.

Lewis Hamilton: “Like every team, we’re encountering problems every day and we’ve still got some work to do in terms of both reliability and speed. There are no specific problem areas, just lots of different things we need to improve. It’s important to get as much mileage under our belts as we can and just as important to discover any problems before we get to Melbourne. It might be frustrating at times but finding them at this stage is actually a positive.

We really don’t know where anyone stands right now and we have enough to concentrate on without looking at how other teams are getting on. The focus is on ourselves and will continue to be right up to the first race. Today was a fairly average day but I’ve got one more to go before we get to Melbourne, so hopefully that will be a bit more productive.”

Hamilton's best time from the total of 89 laps completed was 1:39.041, enough to put him seventh on the time sheets.

He therefore managed to cover 481.668 km (just under 300 miles) in total, which is surprisingly the very same amount that Nico Rosberg completed yesterday in the F1 W05.
