Ok, we get it. After millions of words and tons of videos joined by a matching amount of comments, we agree, the new M cars just don’t sound... right anymore.
It’s not that they don’t sound good but it feels like that emotion they used to cause is gone. There’s no more drama, no more excitement anymore and that’s definitely not a good thing. Sure, the performances have gone up but at what cost?

Think about it. If you were to choose between an emotional car, one that made your heart race, without going to mind-boggling speeds and one that is an absolute performance monster but would only terrify you with its numbers, what would you pick?

We would definitely go for that car that would get your heart racing at all times, even at 50 mph (80 km/h) and that wouldn’t need to be taken to the absolute limit to make us scream in amazement.

If you didn’t catch our drift yet, we’re talking about the old M5 and the current one. While the E60 used a 5-liter V10 engine with Formula 1 technology, the current, F10 model uses a 4.4-liter twinturbo V8 that makes more power and more torque but doesn’t have a ‘natural’ sound.

It’s actually fitted with what BMW calls ‘Active Sound Design’ a feature that amplifies the engine’s sound into the cabin, to make you feel better. We told you all about it here.

Now, on the street, from the outside, the difference is absolutely crazy. Even with aftermarket exhausts, the E60 will win any battle with the F10, any day, hands down. That’s why we posted this video below, showcasing some of the loudest M5s we’ve ever heard, just posing for the camera. Enjoy!
