Let the Party Start: Porsche Produces 250,000th Cayenne

The German sports car manufacturer proudly announced that it recently produced the 250,000th Cayenne at its Leipzig production facility. This special model is a diesel Cayenne to be delivered in Austria, Porsche said in a press statement rolled out a few days ago.

"The introduction of the Cayenne as the third model in the series was an important strategic step for Porsche. The five-seater is not only a great addition to the range for our many long-term Porsche customers, but it also opens up to us an entirely new customer segment on international markets," explains Dr. Wendelin Wiedeking, Chairman of the Board of Porsche AG.

According to figures provided by the German automaker itself, the company sold 150,000 Cayennes across the world from the first generation, with production expanded in the next years of
availability thanks to high consumer demand. The largest Cayenne markets are Germany, the USA, China, Russia, Latin America and the Middle East.

Just to refresh your memory, Porsche Cayenne is available in seven different flavors, as it follows: the entry-level model featuring a 3.6-liter, six-cylinder engine with 290 HP (213 kW), the diesel variant with three-liter cubic capacity engine and 240 HP (176 kW), the S powered by an 8-cylinder engine with 4.8 liters cubic capacity with 385 HP (283 kW), the Cayenne Turbo that produces 500 HP (368 kW), the Cayenne Turbo S incorporating a twin turbocharger with a 550 HP (404 kW), the GTS model developing 405 HP (298 kW) thanks to a 4.8-liter engine plus the Cayenne S Transsyberia for on-road and off-road driving.

The diesel Porsche Cayenne will be displayed for the first time to the general public this week at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show.
