There’s a new range of LEGO Speed Champions sets for the summer, and things like the Chevy Corvette C8.R and Bronco R cater to the racing side of the equation. But there’s a little something for the street as well, including a neat McLaren Elva fun build that comes with a nice Easter Egg related to the speedster’s development team.
McLaren Automotive is just one of the automakers that joined their forces with the Danish LEGO Group to add even more entertainment to the bricked builds this summer. But, to make sure it manages to stand out in a crowd that also includes hypercars like the LEGO Speed Champions Koenigsegg Jesko (76900), they decided a little twist was in order for their Elva (76902).

Available as a cool replica of something that’s going to be utterly collectible (one of the most exclusive contemporary speedsters in the world), the LEGO McLaren Elva came out to play starting June 1st as a 263-piece set available for just £17.99, €19,99, or $19.99 at home in the UK, Europe, or the United States.

Ready to pull into a bricked garage as a very light and innovative supercar, the LEGO McLaren Elva is great for children and automotive enthusiasts alike because it also comes with a cool Easter Egg. That’s because the set’s minifigure isn’t as generic as one would think; it has been modeled after Rachel Brown, McLaren Automotive’s Principal Development Engineer for the Ultimate Series.

Just like the real thing, the LEGO version of the Elva comes with its own small-scale interpretation of the wide chassis, two-seat open cockpit, and even the cleverly intricate Active Air Management System (AAMS). The latter allows the real Elva to be driven without a helmet thanks to the smart aerodynamics that control the air around the driver and passenger.

As for the LEGO car, it’s properly pint-sized, at just 6 inches (16 cm) long, 3 inches (7 cm) wide, and 1.5-inches (4 cm) high. The minifigure itself is well equipped, as it comes with a race suit, helmet, and even a wrench, to further reference its life-sized engineering inspiration.
