Lego Pneumatic Engines Are Available For Sale

You have the opportunity to buy a inline-3 or inline-4 version of the amazing Lego Mindstorm V8 engine Nicjasno created.

They announced the coming of a V6 model after they saw the enthusiasm their previous models created on the market. In order to keep the size to a minimum and maximize usable torque, giving a better overall power output, lego fanatics build the pneumatic engines using Scotch Yoke.

According to Jalopnik, the inline-4 cylinder model features a cross-plane crank, a gear driven valve train and a side mounted dual cam with one valve-per-cylinder. It has a max speed of 2000 rpm (4 bars), while the recommended operation pressure is under 6 bars/90 psi. The maximum tested pressure is 8 bars/120 psi, but again, it's not recommended.

The less powerful inline-3 cylinder model features a 2-stud stroke, a one stud crank-throw and 4 main bearings. It has 1 valve per cylinder and uses a silicone-based lubricant.

These engines are in one word 'amazing', because it's quite mind blowing to think of something made out  of Lego that can functional to real engine specifications. We just hope that future cars won't be fitted with Lego engines, otherwise we'll all get that bumper car feeling every time we drive our vehicle.
