LEGO Caterham Seven 620R Build Video Reveals a Big Problem: No Steering

The Internet went crazy over the introduction of the LEGO Caterham Seven 620R last week. Heck, who wouldn't like to practice building a Caterham in his or her garage by playing with a LEGO before moving on to the real deal?

We obviously jumped the excitement bandwagon, but now that we took the time to check out a build video, a part of that enthusiasm has vanished. Sure, any toy or scale model has its flaws, but when such a LEGO contraption doesn't come with a steering mechanism, don't expect us to be thrilled.

This is even more of an issue when you consider that plastic-fantastic creatures such as the one we have here are created following fan submissions. And, as pointed out in the build video below, LEGO aficionado bricktrix_Carl, who came up with this idea, had designed a set whose steering wheel was actually connected to the front wheels - here's the original project.

The set, which is part of the LEGO Creator collection, also has a few other flaws, such as a forward tile that makes is ground clearance microscopic. All in all, these issues end up making the Caterham less than a playable "machine", which is a pity, especially considering the $79.99 price.

We'll stop the slamming here, though, as the tiny 620R also has its fair share of sweet details. Putting the 770 pieces together means you'll get to enjoy plenty of small features that bring joy, from the detailed engine compartment to the hidden stuff (we don't want to ruin the fun of the clip, so don't expect any further spoilers).

If you're wondering how "people" on YouTube got a hold of the Caterham 620R LEGO kit before its October 1 sale kick-off date, you should know these packages were delivered by the Denmark-based company, so reviews such as the one below are serious business nowadays. And this is why the clip invites you to spend almost 23 minutes checking out this two-seater project - for the record, an experienced builder can put this kit together in 90 minutes.
