Although it will be a bit late for Christmas, LEGO and BMW Motorrad are putting out a new Technic set for future riders to built their own miniature R 1200 GS Adventure model. You know how they say - “get them while they are young, and maybe you’ll get them for life.”
Combining design with the art of engineering, this is the first ever LEGO model to be produced in cooperation with a motorcycle maker and will reach the stores from 01 January 2017.
“BMW Motorrad is very pleased to be able to share the enthusiasm for this bike with the LEGO Technic community. Two companies came together, both of them with a longstanding tradition to make emotional products for their customers”, says Heiner Faust, Head of Sales and Marketing of BMW Motorrad.
It might not look as complicated to build as other vehicles from LEGO, but you should know the R 1200 GS Adventure set comes with 603 parts and the build was designed to be as faithful as possible to the real machine.
The main characteristics and lines of the bike are retained, including the flyline, cases, and adjustable windshield. Enthusiasts will quickly recognize the BMW Telelever front wheel suspension and the shaft final drive as well as the moving BMW Motorrad flat-twin engine, which actually move when the wheels spun.
Even the black spoke wheels with studded tires resemble those of the model's real counterpart. Thanks to the many details, the set is not only realistic but also fun and challenging to build.
Size wise, the model is 18 cm high (7 in), 33 cm long (13 in), and 10 cm (3.9 in) wide. There’s even an interactive LEGO app available for smartphones and tablets coming with 3D assembly instructions to make it easier.
The LEGO Technic BMW R 1200 GS Adventure also has a surprise in store for collectors: the LEGO Group celebrates 40 years of LEGO Technic next year and to mark the occasion, the kit will contain a specially designed LEGO Technic piece.
