This year, Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman turns 30. Viewed as one of the best films in an otherwise very unstable franchise, the flick starred Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne and his night crusader, and Jack Nicholson as a memorable Joker. There was also one of the best iterations of the Batmobile ever seen.
It is exactly this car that is celebrated this year by LEGO with the launch of a special edition brick car. To hit the shelves on Black Friday, on November 29, it could become one of the best selling gifts for the coming holiday season.
The brick Batmobile is made of exactly 3,306 pieces and, once assembled, measures 4 inches high, 23 inches long and 8 inches wide. Once completed, it can be deposited on the rotating display plate that ships with the car.
The car itself is as close to a replica of the Julian Caldow-designed movie machine as it gets. It even has a pair of machine guns hidden under the hood pop-up. There are also a new-for-2019 wraparound windshield element, grappling hooks on both sides of the vehicle, and Bat emblems on the wheel trim.
LEGO paid attention to details on the inside too, where the steering wheel and stick shift have also been recreated.
Most importantly, there are three figurines to go with it. There is, of course, Batman himself, all dressed up for his midnight parties with a new and unique cape, his archenemy the Joker, wearing a fall 2019 face and torso decorations, and Vicki Vale, obviously.
As said, this new LEGO Batmobile goes on sale on Black Friday. It sells for $249.99, and the toymaker even has a surprise for those making the purchase between November 29 and December 5: “an exclusive mini replica of the original model as a free gift.”
Which is, in fact, a scaled down and less detailed version of the new LEGO Batmobile.
