Back in the ’50s, Dodge had the Power Wagon and Chevrolet had the 3100 Napco. Today, however, the Power Wagon is the one that stood the test of time better. Nevertheless, a company called Legacy Classic Trucks has turned its attention to the 3100 Napco.
But first, a quick history lesson. The tried-and-tested Task Force could be had in plenty configurations, in either FWD, RWD, or 4x4. The most off-road model of them all, however, was the Task Force equipped with the Napco Powr-Pak. For all intents and purposes, the Powr-Pak was an option that was developed by Northwestern Auto Parts Company, not General Motors.

What Legacy Classic Trucks has created with the NAPCO Conversion you can admire in the adjacent video and pics isn’t just a tribute to the original. It is much better than that thanks to the perks of modern engineering and technology. Priced from $135,000 and built to order, the full-on Legacy NAPCO can be had with a truck engine or a LS3 from the C6 Corvette.

In terms of output, that’s anything between 350 and 430 horsepower. Mind you, the small-block V8 from the C6 Corvette is the appropriate powerplant, chiefly because the NAPCO is available with the quad-exhaust system from the seventh-generation Corvette. On the cog-swapping front, choices come in the form of 4-speed automatic transmission or 5-speed stick shift.

Built upon an old Chevrolet or GMC 3100 workhorse, the restomodded Legacy NAPCO Conversion is improved with a modern frame, as in a TCI Engineering 2x6-inch fully boxed chassis. And yes, modern goodies include the suspension, which is said to offer 10 inches of travel up front. The axles of this gentle giant, meanwhile, are Dynatrac ProRock units and the transfer case is an Advance Adapters Atlas II that brags with 3.0 low-range gearing.
