Besides being an Academy Award-winning actor, Lee Marvin was also a Ford Mustang driver. And because he was a tough guy on the screen, he needed the most powerful Mustang Ford had to offer the late 1960s - the Shelby GT500 KR, also known as the “King of the Road”.
He ordered one in 1968 and was careful enough to check just about any option box, including the one for the 428 cubic inch police interceptor engine. The convertible musclecar came in a gorgeous shade of blue and was rated at 335 HP, although it’s believed those Shelby actually had 400 horses under the hood.
Marvin used the GT500 KR as a daily driver the entire four years he worked for Hollywood. He gave it to his gardener in the 1970s, who kept it park for year until it was discovered by a Shelby expert. Restored about 30 years ago, the GT500 KR will cross the block at the Russo and Steele auction in Scotsdale, Arizona in January 2014. The musclecar is expected to fetch between $160,000 and $210,000.
