Leaos Solar Is a Self-Sufficient Electric Bicycle that Gives You Independence

A young company in Italy has recently unveiled their newest e-bike model, a solar powered two-wheeler that its creators claim is the first self-sufficient of the kind. Developed with side solar panels, the bike is not only capable of being almost energy independent, but it does that without losing the attractive design.

The Italian company founded by Armin Oberhollenzer in 2012 already has two electric-juiced bikes on the market, yet none of them are designed with solar panels fully integrated into the vehicle like their latest creation. As a result, the high-tech solar films are an attractive design element.

Sure, there are some limits on how independent it will make you. Armin claims that with a medium usage of up to 20 km/day (12 miles), Leaos Solar is completely self-sufficient. Moreover, activating the solar charging requires no further action from the user and the level of solar juice getting stored in the batteries will show on the bike’s display.

If it’s cloudy, it can be easily connected to a conventional power source which will obviously take a lot less to fill up the batteries. As expected, as opposed to the approximate 2 hours it needs to get fully recharged when connected to a normal supply, getting it filled with juice with only solar power could take more than a day. Yet, a full battery will offer a range of 90 km (56 miles) in pedal-assist mode or 72 km (45 miles) in electric drive mode.

According to what Overhollenszer tolled Gizmag, the solar e-bikes will be available globally from July/August this year and will start from EUR7,900 ($8,960). The price might vary though, depending on the buyer’s configuration especially that each customer can personalize it to his wish.
