Launch Control Coming to Non-M BMW Cars This Month

Starting with July, BMW announced a series of technical improvements over the whole line-up. One especially caught our eye: launch control modules for 8-speed automatic gearboxes on 1 Series, 3 Series and 6 Series models.

If up until now, the Launch Control system was only available on M cars, making them definite threats on drag strips, BMW decided that more cars deserve such advantages, to make driving a BMW even more enthralling.

Furthermore, the optional leather sports steering wheel with shift paddles will be available on the luxurious 7 Series models. This way, the driver can manually adjust the drive settings without having to take his hands off the steering wheel.

With the new function, drivers will benefit from the best possible acceleration with optimized traction and maximum dynamics from a standstill. Activating the Launch Control is easy and was described in an earlier article.

However, we'll also put it in writing for everyone to see: In order to use Launch Control, the driver has to activate the DTC mode of the driving stability control function DSC, shift the gear selection lever to the position S, depress the brake pedal firmly and simultaneously press the accelerator pedal all the way down.
