Lauda: "Schumacher's Quit is Disastrous for Ferrari!"

Niki Lauda echoed Eddie Jordan's comments earlier this week, saying that he feels very disappointed with Michael Schumacher's cancelation of his F1 return. However, he didn't point out at the 40-year old German for his decision, but at the unfortunate turn of events that led to this situation.

Schumi has tried to do everything possible to get back in racing form. However, the unfortunate motorcycle crash he sustained made it impossible for him to return,” said the three-time world champion, according to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

Earlier today, it was another 3-time world champion who agreed with Schumacher's decision to cancel his F1 return. Alain Prost said he backs the German's decision to stay away from the Ferrari F60 cockpit, regardless of the reasons – either because of his neck pain or because he can't handle the pressure.

In the statement released on his personal website yesterday morning, Schumacher revealed “my neck cannot stand the extreme stresses caused by Formula 1 yet.” He is expected to fully unveil his motives later today, in a press conference.

Talking about Ferrari's decision to appoint test driver Luca Badoer as Felipe Massa's replacement at Valencia, the 60-year old Austrian believes the European Grand Prix may very well be considered a one-car drive for Ferrari.

For Ferrari it's a disaster. Badoer is only a test driver, he won't be fast at all. It will be as if only Kimi Raikkonen will drive for them,” added Lauda.
