One of the biggest problems with Google Maps lately concerned the GPS connection. The app sometimes had a hard time figuring out where you are, therefore no longer being able to provide accurate navigation instructions.
As we told you not a long time ago, this issue eventually became rather widespread, with plenty of people complaining they couldn’t use the app simply because it failed to determine their location.

In many cases, the whole thing happened due to permission settings on the Android devices where Google Maps was installed, but for others, the GPS was just broken, and the app just didn’t update the location of the user.

As it turns out, the most recent version of Google Maps resolves these GPS problems, though for the time being, there’s no official confirmation from Google, and a detailed changelog of what the company fixed in the latest update has never been provided.

Several users told us the GPS problems are gone after installing Google Maps version 10.56.x on their Android devices, and others online seem to confirm the whole thing.

The first app version part of the 10.56 build was published in early December as Google Maps 10.56.1, while the newest one is Google Maps 10.56.2. You can find the latest update in the Google Play Store, but you can also download the stand-alone APK installers from this page for a manual installation.

For the time being, however, there’s absolutely no confirmation everything is back to normal for everybody. Still, if you too encountered GPS problems with Google Maps, updating to the latest version is the first thing you should do anyway. There’s a chance no other update would be published this year, given that Christmas is almost here, so make sure you install version 10.56 on your device as soon as possible.

As for any potential GPS problems on Google Maps, if you still notice them, make sure the application has the correct permission settings on your Android device.
