Last Kart Driven by Ayrton Senna Can Now be Your Weekend Warrior

Ever since a particular documentary film came out in 2010, the legend of Ayrton Senna got bigger with each and every year that passed. To this effect, Senna-related memorabilia is also hot in the eyes of collectors, not just the racing cars he drove to victory against all odds or against his arch-rivals. This state of affairs gets us to a kart driven by the Brazilian on March 19th, 1994 at his beloved farm in Tatui, Sao Paulo.

It’s the “last kart driven by Senna before his passing” according to RM Sotheby’s, and as you found out from the headline, the four-wheeled work of wonder will head to auction at no reserve. There’s no denying someone out there will pay huge money on this lot, with 10 percent of the proceeds benefitting the Instituto Ayrton Senna.

The non-profit organization was founded in November of 1994, six months after the black weekend at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola, Italy. The institute aims to empower the youth people of Brazil by means of quality education. On an annual basis, the institute benefits 660 municipalities across 17 states, 65,000 teachers, and 1,500,000 children.

According to RM Sotheby’s, the kart was “placed into storage” in March of 1994 “and never driven thereafter.” Be that as it may, Riomark Kart Mini restored the kart while the engine was overhauled by Tche Parilla. “Declarations from both attesting to its authenticity are on file,” and adding to the specialness of this lot, “the kart has not yet been driving.”

The sale is furthered by written declarations from friends of the Brazilian racing driver, people who were present on March 19th. As if that wasn’t enough, the owner is much obliged to include over half an hour of footage of Senna driving the kart on his private circuit, alongside numerous period photographs.

Considering that Senna loved karting even when he was on top of the game in Formula 1, you could say that buying this fellow here is the greatest tribute one can bring to the Brazilian. Better still, the proceeds going to the Instituto Ayrton Senna will be spent for a noble cause, dear to the racing driver’s heart.
