The Russian tuners at LARTE-Design (we really hope their name isn't going for any kind of connection with the word "art", cause that would be a bit pretentious) are know for their lairy conversions of mainly really large SUVs, and this Mercedes-Benz GL is no exception.
The body kit is called Black Crystal (because, you know, it's black, and it has many right cuts) and isn't a new LARTE creation, but they have taken it outside for a quick photo shoot.

The previous studio shots did not do justice to the car's real level of weirdness and over-the-topness. Seeing it against a real-life background, though, surrounded by things with normal shapes that we can relate to, only makes it stand out even more.

Which is what they must have gone after, so we guess this body kit is a success from their point of view. As for ours, we're not so concerned about how the car itself looks, but the psycho-social profile of its potential buyers. Now that's a man you'd only want around you if you're a football team owner.

But the guys at LARTE-Design certainly don't lack in self-confidence. Speaking about the Black Crystal body kit on their website, they say they've "made the look of GL 166 really perfect." No, give us a sledgehammer and two hours and we'll make it perfect.

That rear air diffuser is ridiculous on a car this size and with this shape while that central brake light make me think the GL accidentally climbed on top of an F1 car. Things aren't much brighter at the front, either, with that long grille extending down like a male-cleavage gone horribly wrong.

And we haven't even talked about the engine. You would expect a car looking as "perfect" as this one to have a powerful V8 petrol engine, but you would be wrong. Of course, you can have the exterior body kit fitted on any GL, including the GL500, but LARTE-Design have somehow chosen a perfect GL350d as the support for their show car. They've even tuned its 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine to produce 290 hp and 690 Nm (509 lb-ft) of torque, but 32 extra hp and 70 more Nm (52 lb-ft) isn't going to erase everything else they've done.

Oh, and there's also a white Black Crystal you can see in the second video below, because white is the new black.
