Land Rover has recently revealed a new video showing fans what it would be like to actually win the company’s competition, through which four friends will get the chance to travel to space on board of Virgin Galactic’s spacecraft. Worth over $1million, Land Rover’s Galactic Discovery competition will run to 21st November.
As part of Land Rover’s new Discovery SUV promotion, the British automaker has launched what could be one of a kind competition, considering the prize is literally sending four aspiring astronauts to space. The company has recently released exclusive new details on what winners will experience.

Worth over $1 million, the top prize will see the winners take a one-week trip to the US, where they will undergo three days of training and preparation at the Foster+Partners designed Spaceport America in New Mexico, before taking a Mach 3.5 ride to space in Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo. The adventurers will then experience out of seat wightlessness and life changing views of planet Earth.

Land Rover claims it’s important competition entrants know as much as possible about the exclusive travel, so they can get “really excited about this once-in-a-lifetime experience". According to Land Rover’s press release, the film shows footage of the test flights undertaken by Virgin Galactic to date, alongside CGI animation of the zero gravity experience.

You can join the competition

The video below basically shows the entire experience with step by step details, from the arrival at Virgin Galactic’s Gateway to Space facility at Spaceport America, to the Mach 3.5 vertical rocket ride into the black sky of space and the return to Earth.

Narration comes from Virgin Galactic’s Vice President of Operations, Mike Moses. He leads the team in all aspects of safety and successful space flight operations, including White KnightTwo and SpaceShipTwo vehicle processing, planning, training and flight crew operations.

In case you want to subscribe for the competition, you should know that Land Rover asks every participant to produce a 30-second video, or a still image, that demonstrates their spirit adventure, choose three friends to join them on their space adventure and submit it via the auto maker’s website. The competition will run until the 21st November and the campaign culminates with the announcement of the four winners in December.
