It was a unique debut for the Land Rover Discovery Sport today in Paris, the British company wanting to make an impact. In that regard, they left the expo behind and unveiled the new model on a 80-meter long barge on the River Seine in central Paris, stunning the crowd gathered there.
That wasn’t it though, the organizers got actress and supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley to make an appearance next to the car while an ad-hoc stunt featuring seven pairs of giant Wellington boots was a metaphor for the 7 seats of the new model.

Enough of the launch, what about the car?

The Land Rover Discovery Sport is a new proposition for the market and to emphasize that, the car will be only one on display at the company’s stand at the Paris Motor Show 2014 today, October 2nd.

Developed ‘in the spirit of adventure’ according to the British company, every aspect of the car is supposed to reflect that. Inside, the it shows high-quality materials as well as a strong, vertical center console, in the typical Land Rover style. Seating for 5+2 is offered but don’t get too excited. You’ll still have to struggle to get two adults in those extra two seats.

The new multi-link rear axle allowed the engineers to offer more space in the back while also providing a more comfortable ride on the road. At the same time, the off-roading capabilities of the car are not compromised, the breakover angles being kept at 25, 31 and 21 degrees respectively.

Featuring all the latest technologies Land Rover has to offer, you’ll be happy to know that it has the ability to wade to 600 mm, includes Terrain Response technology and makes sure to keep everyone safe, inside and out.

In this regard, pedestrian airbags are included along with autonomous emergency braking and a new bodyshell made of ultra-high-strength steel and lightweight aluminum.

Other features include an all-new 8” touchscreen infotainment system and tilt-and-slide row-two seating is standard on the Discovery Sport.

Engines?

At the beginning, the Discovery Sport will be available only with the 2.2-liter 4-cylinder SD4 turbodiesel engine, the pick of the range in most cases. Making 190 HP and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) of torque, it will enough to power the 1,854 kg (4,087 lbs) car.

Available with both the manual 6-speed gearbox or the new 9-speed automatic one, the car won’t have a problem on or off road. Fuel consumption is reduced thanks to start/stop technology.

Later on in 2015, a 2-wheel drive model will be introduced with the eD4 name. This model is claimed to have a CO2 emission rating of 119 grams/km.
