The Landie established the four-by-four off-road utility vehicle in great style since the 1940s, an era that also gave us the Willys MB U.S. Army Jeep.
Currently marketed as the Defender, the model is going to be phased out in a few years' time due to its very old underpinnings. But 'til that happens, Urban Truck had a go at making the Landie more swanky.

The British outfit got their hands on two Defenders - a 90 and a 110 model, toyed around with ideas and the finished products are something we'd rather fancy for both a shopping spree and a weekend's adventure in the mountains - not too over the top, neither factory-looking. We'd call it a perfect blend.

Urban Truck charges from £49,995 for the tuned Defenders you can admire in the photo gallery below. Highlight visual add-ons include a KBX front grille, hood vents, LED headlights with daytime running lights mounted in the bumper, together with 18-inch rollers dressed in 265/65/18 off-road rubber.

Available as a 90 Station Wagon, 110 Utility Wagon and Station Wagon

What the British tuning company calls the Ultimate Edition benefits from a mild tune job with the oily bits. As such, the 2.2-liter turbo diesel donkey now boasts with 170 horsepower and 360 Nm (265 lb-ft) of twist thanks to basic upgrades such as a stainless steel exhaust, better cooling and a new air filter.

As for the interior, the rather dull cabin is beautified by Alcantara inserts, aluminum trim, leather-wrapped steering wheel and Recaro Sportster CS Sport bucket seats dressed in Nappa leather. The final touches are a handy parking camera joined by a thumpin' great stereo and an Alpine sat nav system.
