Lamborghini Urus With Face Swap Makes a Perfect Corvette SUV

While many people have been asking GM to turn Corvette into a brand and let it eat Porsches for breakfast, it was a statement by Bob Lutz that sparked everyone's imagination this week. With less than a month before the big reveal of the C8 Vette, the former chairman basically called it pointless.

In his words, no self-respecting Porsche 911 buyer would ever take the Corvette seriously, mid-engined or not. General Motors would have been far better off with a Corvette SUV that rivals the Cayenne instead, offering more of everything for just $100,000.

Making Corvette-powered cars and SUVs used to be the job of Cadillac. But they seem to be busy sponsoring concerts and offering cheap financing for leases nobody wants to own long-term. In addition, the American car market is going down, so it's better to have models with high returns, not sports cars in the range.

But what would that even look like - a tall, four-door Corvette off-roader? The notion would sound pretty strange were it not for the fact that almost every luxury brand switched to SUVs. Bentley, for example, gave us the Bentayga, which many people hated at first. But it's the Lamborghini Urus that seems more related to this project.

As you can see from this rendering by Kleber Silva, the angular design of the Urus is a near-perfect match for the C7 Vette's front end. In fact, some might even argue that it looks better this way. You add some new wheels, brakes and voila: a 4x4 Corvette. It's a match made in heaven.

What would you even name such a thing? We suggest some ancient deadly fish, like X1 Corvette Megalodon. An SUV would also allow GM to go greener with the engine, installing plug-in hybrid or even EV drives.
