Lamborghini has worked for decades to create a brand of pure adult entertainment. However, the Urus might compromise some of the core values while bringing billions in profits. We already knew the SUV would adopt a 4-liter twin-turbo engine, but now it seems it will also use a normal automatic instead of the twin-clutch fitted to the Huracan.
You're still going to love it. It's a red Lamborghini SUV with oversized wheels for goodness' sake. But it's not going to be the perfect track car, and it won't rev as hard.

Australian magazine CarAdvice recently completed an interview with Lamborghini chief executive officer, Stefano Domenicali, and Lamborghini board member for research and development, Maurizio Reggiani. They insisted that the Urus is going to have all the qualities of a pure Lamborghini.

“This was one of the most important discussions, it is outstanding. The things we discussed several times and feedback from the board was for it to be a real Lamborghini. If you perceive and close the eyes without seeing anything and drive the car, you will know it’s a real Lamborghini,” Domenicali said.

Of course, he would say that. After all, even if it doesn't, the SUV is guaranteed to be a huge success due to all that pent up demand.

We get why they used a 4-liter turbo. Most the necessary development work is done by other companies (Bentley and Audi). Simply put, it will make the Urus faster. However, Reggiani claims low-end torque is needed for off-road use, and only turbo engines provide it. That's not how many trail enthusiasts see it, as the Toyota Land Cruiser, Nissan Armada and Jeep Wrangler all have big naturally aspirated engines with zero lag.

For the first time ever, a Lamborghini official confirmed that the Urus will use an automatic with a torque converter. Again, we get why it happened. The 4.0 TFSI has a lot of torque, which is why Audi uses the 8-speed automatic for the RS6 and S8. It's also seen on the SQ7 and on Bentley's Bentayga, both of which are sister SUVs to the Urus.

It's a good gearbox, but in our book, the twin-clutch is still king. Most of the fastest cars in the world use one. Carbon fiber might be one of the few things the Urus has going for it, but by 2018, most performance cars will use it in some way. And it's not like they've preserved the famous Lambo doors either.

That's right, the video is from 2012. Shows you how long we've been waiting
