Lamborghini have chosen the Los Angeles Auto Show to reveal a lighter, mode exciting version of the Gallardo Spyder. Changes have been made to the exterior and interior of the car, together with a small power boost.

We said the car was revealed at the LA Auto Show, but in actual fact the Sant'Agata Bolognese manufacturer preferred to host an exclusive gathering for the unveiling of the Gallardo Spyder Performante.

The Performante follows Lamborghini’s new mentality, being committed to losing weight wherever possible. As a result, the new model has managed to shed an impressive 143 lbs (65 kg) compared to its predecessor. A total weight of just 3,275 lb (1,485 kg) is achieved thanks to a lot of carbon fiber components throughout the car.

Together with the V-shaped, sharply defined nose and the LED daytime running lights, the black elements give the front end a razor-sharp look. The design also optimizes the supply of cooling air and improves the downforce on the front axle. The design shows a striking resemblance to the Superveloce Murcielago.

In order to reduce weight on the inside of the car, the center tunnel cover, door panels and the surround of the e-gear automated manual transmission lever are made from carbon-fiber. The same material is also used for the sports seats' shell that are also covered with in lightweight Alcantara instead of leather.

Power comes from the usual 5.2-liter V10 that has been tweaked to produce 570 hp (419 kW). The increase of 7 kW (10 hp) is the result of the new engine management system. The supercar is capable of a 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint in a mere 3.9 seconds and keeps on going to a top speed of 324 km/h (201 mph).

Since weight reductions are nothing new for Lamborghini, its hard not to view this as a Superleggera with a new nose, but we think this is the best looking Gallardo yet.
