In a recent report, Auto Express writes that the highly anticipated and much talked about Lambo SUV will be called the MLC, at least as a concept when it makes its debut at the 2012 Shanghai Auto Show in April. MLC sounds a bit unimaginative when you consider how Italian Estoque or Gallardo sounds, not to mention it has no vowels. Lamborghini, can we please call it the Maloca, Malaca or the Melca... anything is better than MLC.
The platform is loosely based on that of the Porsche Cayenne, but this will be a completely different animal. The engineers that developed the carbon fiber monocoque of the Aventador have been pulled in to develop key lightweight components, like a full-length transmission tunnel made from the lightweight material. The end target is supposedly to get the SUV to below 2 tons.
We think that speculations about the SUV or the Estoque going into production are useless right now, as the decision will become evident only after the market has made up its mind which one it wants. Either way, the third Lambo will only be available in 2014 or 2016.
