Lamborghini has not mumbled a single word about the Sesto Elemento ever since the Huran came out. However, a supercar made completely from carbon fiber that looks like this is not easily forgotten.
20 or so examples were supposed to be built by the in-hose Skunk Works division of Lamborghini, but so far only two have been made exclusively for promotional use. This next video shows one of those cars being driven hard recently at the Sepang Raceway in Malaysia.
This Formula 1 race track has plenty of high-speed curves where the 570 horsepower Italian thoroughbred can cut loose. There's no question about it, the Sesto Elemento sounds absolutely brutal, probably even more shocking than it is to look at.
An extreme limited production car, the Sesto Elemento is named after carbon, which not only make up most of its constitution, but is also the sixth element of the periodic table. Initiall previewed as a concept at the 2010 Paris MOtor Show, it was confirmed for production a year later.
Each model Lamborghini will make is going to cost $2 million and will be powered by 570 hp V10 engines borrowed from the Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera. Extensive use of lightweight materials ensures a total weight just short of 1 ton, which brings about a power to weight ratio down to just 1.75 kg/hp.
Despite being completely illegal to drive on the road, the desirability and exclusivity of the Sesto Elemento ensures all 20 examples have been sold since 2012. That's a long time to wait for a car, even if it's a Lambo!
