Lamborghini Mocks The Crisis, Pleased by 2008 High Sales

While most automakers across the globe cried out loud and screamed for government money, Lamborghini continues to run high in most markets, as the company itself stated in a release. The Italian supercar manufacturer said it managed to increase sales by 1 percent, from 2406 to 2430, in 2008, in spite of the difficult market conditions the automotive sector currently encounters.

Lamborghini says the strongest growth was unveiled by China, followed by the Middle East and major Asian markets. The United States market fell 20.3 percent with 741 units sold last year compared with 930 vehicles in the year before. The Italian sector on the other hand brought an increase by 10 percent from 209 to 230 units, turning the company's homeland into the second largest world market.

“With this new record in deliveries and profits we have marked the most successful fiscal year in the history of our company. The worldwide economic climate, especially regarding luxury markets, has changed dramatically. However, Lamborghini’s stronghold in global presence and brand appeal will enable us to steer Lamborghini through challenging times," President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, Stephan Winkelmann, said.

And because we were talking about the Middle Easter region, sales have increased by 66 percent from 100 to 166 units, Lamborghini said. China sold a total of 72 units, compared with 28 the year before, the press release added.

“In the light of world-wide economic uncertainties, this new record year above all proves the sustainability of our business strategy. We know that there are tough times ahead now, but we have increased the value and appeal of our luxury brand and we are ready to take on the challenges the future might bring us. We are confident we will come out of this challenge stronger than we went into it,” Winkelmann concluded.
