Lamborghini May Produce V8 Supercar

Lamborghini’s range of models has never truly included a wide offer, with the carmaker being a master of special editions and modified versions for its vehicles.

Things haven’t changed much in the modern era of the company (the Italian supercar producer was acquired by the Volkswagen Group back in 1998). Lambo’s range currently consists of the Gallardo and the Murcielago. Yes, we know, the vehicles have convertible versions, with Lambo also offering hard-hardcore incarnations like the SVs, but we are still basically talking about two animals, a V10 one and a V12 one.

However, it seems that things are about to change, as the Raging Bull might be working on a V8 model. The new vehicle would become Lamborghini’s new entry level model, being placed under the Gallardo, as CarAndDriver writes.

This wouldn’t be a new territory for the Italian automotive producer, as Lambo has been present in this segment of the market before. This was happening in the 70s and 80s, when the company sold models like the Uracco and Jalpa. The entry-level model would also bring finacial benefits for the compnay, as its lower price would allow sales to reach a higher level (remeber the Gallardo's 10,000 units landmark?).

Going back to the potential future baby Lamborghini, we expect the car to use a modified version of the Gallardo’s platform. This would allow Lamborghini to come with an offer similar to Audi’s - Audi markets an R8 V8 and an R8 V10. And just as the German brand also offers a topless version for the V8 version, Lambo could come with a spider incarnation for the future model.

The new move would also allow Lambo to lower its range’s average CO2 emissions, as the new car would be lighter and less powerfull and therefore more fuel efficient, maybe allowing the company to say “NO” to the hybrid temptation that Ferrari has given in to.
