Being a factory test driver certainly has its quirks, especially when the carmaker you pledged service to is Lamborghini. Our shutterbugs caught up with what the Italian supercar manufacturer is doing these days, as in testing the aggressive-looking Huracan Superleggera on the world’s most incredible circuit.
Expected to make its official debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show and go on sale for the 2018 model year, the Lamborghini Huracan Superleggera has the makings of a worthy challenger to the credentials of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Compared to previous sightings of the new bull, this prototype boasts two extra air ducts up front. Taken as a whole, the front bumper and its aero wizardry is primarily influenced by the front end of facelifted Aventador.
At the rear, the exhausts were moved higher up, similar to what the McLaren 675LT has to offer. Instead of quad tips located low down at the sides of the rear bumper, the Huracan Superleggera has two outlets located above the license plate. As far as aerodynamics are concerned, goodies include an intricate diffuser complemented by a rear wing with an extreme angle of attack. It’s rather clear, then, that downforce is the name of the game here.
From the profile, the 2018 Lamborghini Huracan Superleggera reveals an extra set of air ducts on each side of the rear wheel case. It’s not known if those will channel fresh air to the V10 engine or to the high-performance brakes, but still, they add character to the baby bull of Sant’Agata Bolognese. The Superlight Huracan is also expected to shed 100 kg (220 lbs) or so.
The Italian interloper’s 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 is rumored to churn out as much as 650 PS (641 horsepower), albeit 640 PS (631 horsepower) seems more like it. Can you imagine what that means in broader context? Indeed, the hardcore variant of the baby Lambo will outgun the Murcielago LP 640 and its full-blooded V12 powerplant. Of course, the Audi-developed dual-clutch transmission will be there to shift cogs as quickly as possible.
