You know how some cars pretend to be racers in disguise? Well, the Lamborghini Huracan STO does more than just act as a track-only toy with blinkers, because it was actually inspired by the Squadra Corse models.
What is Squadra Corse, you ask? Unless you’ve been living under a rock, then you know it is the brand’s motorsport department. The cars developed by them compete in some of the most prestigious championship, including what is said to be “the fastest one-make championship in the world,” the Lamborghini Super Trofeo.
Lamborghini’s racers managed to win the 24 Hours of Daytona for three years in a row. The impressive machines bagged the first spot in 2018, 2019, and 2020, which makes them quite American in our book. And since the Huracan STO was built with the company’s racing know-how, it too bears the stars and stripes at its heart.
To further highlight the awesomeness of the supercar, Lamborghini has dropped an official video on its YouTube channel that puts the spotlight on it and on the full-blown racers. The film is only one and a half minutes long and reveals some of the secrets of the dream machine, with emphasis on racing.
Before moving on to it, we will remind you that you are looking at one of the most track-competent cars out there. It is 95 pounds (43 kg) lighter than the already lightweight Huracan Performante and uses the naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine that produces 631 hp (640 ps / 470 kW) and 417 lb-ft (565 Nm) of torque. The thrust is actually 26 lb-ft (35 Nm) less than in the Performante, but don’t forget that it is lighter.
The Raging Bull claims that it can complete the 0 to 62 mph (0-100 kph) sprint in 3 seconds flat, en route to a 193 mph (310 kph) top speed. All that power is channeled to the rear wheels via a dual-clutch seven-speed automatic transmission.
