Now that the R8 is in its second generation, the German unidentical twin of the Lamborghini Huracan no longer wants to sit in the shadow of its Sant'Agata Bolognese sibling.
We've all seen the street car battle(s) where the R8 V10 Plus outgunned the Huracan in the 0 to 60 mph sprint, albeit just slightly. Well, the time has come to expand the fight to the track.

And while it's too early to give you a race, we do have the racing versions of both machines sharing a track for testing purposes. The machines were captured while attending the Test Day 2016 event on the Monza track in Italy.

We're dealing with various Audi R8 LMS GT3 units run by W Racing Team, as well as four Lamborghini Huracan GT3 racers belonging to Grasser Racing Team and Attempto Racing Team.

Interestingly, the R8 GT3 one-ups the Huracan GT3 in terms of pricing, as the first costs $445,550, while the latter can be had for $427,400. If you're in the market for one of these track-confined machines, don't forget to add taxes to those figures.

Both vehicles are animated by a naturally-aspirated 5.2-liter V10, but the restrictors installed in order to follow racing regulations means we're dealing with slightly less power compared to what the street models have to offer.

As for exactly how far the rest of these racers have come from the production models, we can turn to Audi's explanation for a clue, as the German automaker has stated the track version and the street model share about 50 percent of their parts.

When it comes to Lamborghini, the Huracan GT3 has seen a switch in attitude on Lamborghini's side, with the carmaker handling most of the work itself (with the help of Dallara in the aero department), as opposed to the sort of outsourced effort that has given birth to the Gallardo GT3.
