At the moment, the Lamborghini Huracan is one of the most desirable Italian supercars. People are waiting a whole year for their example to arrive. But fast forward a few decades and that V10 performance might not seem so important when humanity is standing on the brink of its destruction.
During 2013's Hollywood blockbuster Elysium, Matt Damon has a Nissan GT-R beaten down to a shell of its former glory. It looks a bit like crossing Mad Max's Ford Falcon XB and the DMC12 time machine from Back to the Future.
But what if it wasn't a Nissan GT-R that he drove, what if a Lamborghini Huracan somehow became the object of his affections? This next rendering made by Yasid Design aims to answer that very important question that nobody asks.
It's rusted down; it's painted in sandy brown, and it's covered in all sorts of ugly graffiti. The most interesting feature, however, is the fact that the Pirelli performance tires were replaced by futuristic-looking airless ones like what the US military wants to use.
For us living in the present, there is little reason to mistreat the Huracan in such a way, especially after paying $300,000 for one. But, four decades from now, supercars will turn into chromed spaceships, so anything that uses wheels will be obsolete.
In the year 2154 when the events of Elysium happen, two classes of people exist, the absurdly wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made satellite, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated Earth. Secretary Delacourt, played by Jodie Foster, will stop at nothing to preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the 1%.
Would it be cool to see a dilapidated Lamborghini blown up by a mercenary with a power-enhancing exoskeleton? Yes. Is there going to be another Elysium to show that? Probably not, but maybe another post-apocalyptic movie will pick up the mantle.
