Lamborghini Huracan EVO RWD Spyder AR Launch Is an Apple-Only Deal

Most of us are still locked in our homes, waiting for the storm to pass, and every time something exciting is about to take place, we go into overdrive. Like hearing Lamborghini will unveil the Spyder variant of the Huracan EVO RWD in augmented reality (AR).

Now, if we remember this right, such a thing was never done before. Sure, we had AR detailing cars, like for instance back when the Porsche Taycan was just the Mission E concept, or when the Bentley EXP 100 GT hit the web, but those were not car launches per se, but rather post-unveiling presentations.

Lamborghini plans to change that, and on May 7 it will pull the wraps of the EVO RWD Spyder on its official website, with the backing of Apple’s AR Quick Look. You know, that AR app that obviously works exclusively on iPhones and iPads.

Sure, the ones not owning such devices will be able to enjoy the launch as well, only in the old-fashioned way, with 2D photos and text. The ones that sided with Apple will get to admire the car “in people’s driveways, gardens or even sitting rooms at the touch of a button.”

And as a bonus, they’ll get the same functionality for the rest of the Lamborghini range of cars. Talk about feeling left out…

“Apple and Lamborghini share a great passion for design and innovation. We are excited to support the launch of the new Lamborghini with Apple’s augmented reality technology, so that their fans around the world can experience it from the safety of their own homes,” justifies the carmaker’s decision Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

The Huracan EVO RWD Spyder is an extension of the line introduced at the beginning of the year with the launch of the rear-wheel-drive version of the Huracan. That means, in numbers, a 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine, 610 hp and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque.

To view the car launch as intended by the company, you need to have an iPhone or iPad with iOS 11 and an A9 processor or later.
