As promised since yesterday, Lamborghini pulled the wraps on Thursday (May 7) off the Spyder variant for its latest interpretation of the Huracan, the Evo RWD. Also as promised, Apple customers got the chance to see the unveiling in augmented reality.
The latest Huracan Spyder is not some new contraption from Lamborghini, but an exact copy of the rear-wheel-drive Huracan Evo presented at the beginning of the year, with the exception of a roof that can get out of the way.

That means that mechanically to two cars are the same. Power comes from a 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine linked to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox with launch control and three driving modes, Strada, Sport and Corsa.

The engine develops 610 hp and 560 Nm of torque, enough to beam the Lambo from 0 to 100 kph (62 mph) in 3.5 seconds, and on to a speed of 344 kph (201 mph). The roof of the Spyder can be operated at speeds of up to 50 kph (31 mph).

“The Huracán Evo Rear-Wheel Drive Spyder doubles the driving fun, delivering raw driving pleasure with the opportunity to celebrate life outside,” said in a statement the company’s CEO Stefano Domenicali.

"The driver is perfectly in touch with Lamborghini’s engineering heritage, experiencing the feedback and engagement from the set-up of a rear-wheel-drive car where electronic intrusion is minimized, while enjoying the sense of freedom and spirit of life that only open-top driving provides.”

According to the Italians, the Huracan Evo RWD Spyder starts shipping to customers this summer. The price has been set at £151,100.

If are an iPhone or iPad owner, you can check out the car in augmented reality on the company’s official website, alongside all the other models now available. If not, you’ll have to make do with the 2D photos in the gallery above and the text of this piece or the press release attached in the appropriate section below.
