Sleepers come in many shapes and sizes and if you're searching for an example of a European one, look no further than the Opel Kadett sitting before you. The aging hatchback recently got the opportunity to play with a Lamborghini Huracan and the German compact didn't disappoint.
Note that we're looking at a Kadett E here - built in the late 80s, this was the final incarnation of the model, which was replaced by the Astra line that survives to this day.
Perhaps the best fact about this Opel is its appearance, since there are very few clues towards its supercar-rivaling performance. In fact, the roll cage found inside the vehicle is probably the most revealing bit. But if we look at elements like the front apron or the exhaust tip, it's hard to imagine this hatch running with the big boys.
And while we're not aware of the Opel Kadett's tech goodies, we can talk about the performance it delivered. You see, the vehicle met the Lambo during a drag racing event, with this taking place on an airfield in Germany.
The Sant'Agata Bolognese machine we're talking about is the second slowest in the lineup (this is the rear-wheel-drive Coupe, which not only skips the AWD, but packs 580 hp, as opposed to the 610 hp output of the standard model, if we might call it so. Then again, we're referring to a car that can still be found in Lamborghini showrooms across the world.
It was a half-mile battle that saw the two being thrown at each other. And, thankfully, the piece of footage documenting the brawl also allows us to check out the numbers delivered at the end of the run - check out the maximum velocity for each car, since this is the most important factor.
And while the said race awaits you at the 5:37 point of the video, the rest of the clip is also spectacular, since it involves machines like the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4, a 750 hp VW Golf Mk IV, a 550 HP Audi TT-RS and others.
