Lamborghini was already familiar with the idea of versions and editions that create a complete family for a certain model when the Gallardo came around. However, the V10 model created a whole new world of possibilities for the Raging Bull, with the company truly mastering the art of derivatives for the "junior" model.
And you'll have a hard time finding a Gallardo that captured more attention than the Super Trofeo Stradale at the time of its debut.
The story of the STS goes like this: Sant'Agata Bolognese had used the Gallard as the starting point for the Super Trofeo one-make series, while adding the Stradale particle meant the motorsport machine was converted back to street use.
I've had the pleasure to spend a day with the Gallardo Super Trofeo Stradale back in the day, with its Rosso Mars-covered styling cues still being fresh in my memory (owners could also go fo Grigio Telesto or Bianco Monocerus, with the gloss black roof being an option).
The Italian automotive producer only brought 150 examples of the STS to the world and it looks like an owner has now decided to... give his machine a Super Trofeo treatment.
The owner talks about this as being the most extreme naturally-aspirated Lambo project car, but we'll have to wait for the full details of the build to see if that conclusion stands.
Meanwhile, all we can do is stare at the extreme aero of the thing, with the beard-like diffuser and the rear wing taking center stage.
Oh, and the V10 heart of the supercar now spits flames like a dragon, as you'll be able to notice in the piece of footage below.
Speaking of the street car-motorsport toy-road-going special edition cycle, Lamborghini is expected to repeat this with the Urus, as I've discussed with EMEA CEO Andrea Baldi (here's the interview).
