A tip of the hat goes out to the Lamborghini Gallardo, whose production has just ended on November 25, 2013. Look beyond the Rosso Mars color of the Gallardo LP570-4 Spyder Performante, the last unit produced and you’ll see the car that has basically changed Lamborghini forever.
The Gallardo showed up back in 2003 and was the first model to have been fully designed under Audi’s arm. The VW Group used the German carmaker to rescue Lamborghini back in 1998 and while they couldn’t fully introduce their ways to the Murcielago, which came out in 2001, the Gallardo was a different story.

Audi kept the Lamborghini-ness that makes the Raging Bull so special, but endorsed all this with reliability and production capacity. The overall result? Lamborghini sold 14,022 Gallardos over they years, almost half of the total 30,000 Lambos built since Ferruccio created the company back in 1963.

The Gallardo was received a major revamp in 2008, as well as a light refresh in 2012. It was also a master of special editions, with no less than 32 incarnations of the supercar being brought to the world. Out of these, we enjoyed test driving the RWD LP550-2 Spyder, the LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale and the 2013 LP560-4.

We’ll remember the adrenaline rush of a Gallardo e-gear robotized manual gearshift as we wait for the Gallardo’s sucessor, the Lamborghini Cabrera, to come out in 2014.
