While the low-emission pressure is upon us, we can fortunately say that the go-fast industry still manages to deliver numbers that keep getting higher and higher. But have we really reached a point where today's supercars can run with the hypercars of one generation ago? Well, the drag race we have here, which sees a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ duking it out with a Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse, tries to answer that question.
The Superveloce Jota incarnation of the Raging Bull might be special, but it certainly doesn't come close to the Molsheim animal we have here, which is the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse L'Or Blanc. In English, this means we're dealing with a one-off that uses the open-top version of the higher-spec 1,200 hp Veyron as a starting point.

Estimated to have cost north of EUR2 million, this machine saw Bugatti joining hands with a company called Königliche Porzellan-Manufatur Berlin - the extra-glossy white paint of the hypercar reminds one of porcelain, while the blue lines of the xterior were done by hand.

Returning to the drag races that pitted the Bug against the 770 hp Lambo, the toys got together during this year's edition of the Supercar Owners Circle.

Held in Andermatt, Switzerland, the velocity gathering saw plenty of uber-exotic machines leaving their garages and being put to proper use.

In fact, we've already featured multiple battles from the said event, such as this Koenigsegg vs. Koenigsegg adventure. As for the shenanigan involving the Veyron and the Aventador, you'll find this at the 2:56 point of the clip below.

Nevertheless, many of the races were affected by poor starts, with both flag men and drivers being in dire need of sharper skills. Fortunately, for the battle that brought us here, the botched launch only added to the suspense of the race.

Update:Here's what could be labeled as the retro version of this drag race, namely a battle between a Lamborghini Diablo and a Bugatti EB110 GT, with this having taken place during the same event.
