We live in a time where hot hatches that can beat sportscars and four-door performance machines have no shame in battling it out with supercars. The latest example of this comes from Russia, where a Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG has dared to take on a Lamborghini Aventador.
Mercedes has done a manic job with the CLS63 AMG 4Matic, but even so the four-foor coupe needs a serious tech upgrade to be able to tackle an Aventador. A local tuner was glad to assist, so this CLS dialed all the way up to 750 HP.
While the 50 extra horses are not nearly enough to offset the massive weight difference between the two, the secret lies within the torque of the twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 of the German machine. The new twist figure isn’t specified, but we can be certain this offers a hefty premium compared to the Aventador’s 690 Nm (509 lb-ft).
As we said, the two were thrown at each other during a one-kilometer race. With both using heavily engineered all-wheel-drive systems, the standing start was the best way to do it.
We’re not going to spoil the fun by telling you what’s going on, but we can confirm this is one race that has kept us on our toes. Mind you, these Russians pay close attention to the reaction times, so the drivers and the cars are assessed individualy.
Then there’s the soundtrack - the cocktail of Affalterbach grumpiness and Sant’Agata Bolognese frenzy delivers an aural treat that deserves our complete attention. Guess this would be a V20...
