Lamborghini Aventador Production Milestone: 5,000 Units and Counting

The year was 2010. Lamborghini was at a crossroad because the Murcielago approached its end of production after a 9-year career. But little did the motoring media know back then that the Raging Bull in Sant’Agata Bolognese would come up with a follow-up as great as the current flagship of Automobili Lamborghini.
After 4,099 examples of the breed, the Murcielago made way for the jaw-droppingly dramatic Aventador. Five years since production has started in 2011, the Aventador family numbers more than 5,000 offspring. The milestone was hit on March 22, 2016, and from the looks of the Lamborghini workers featured in the photograph above, everyone is happy that the Aventador turned out to be a success story.

Please squint a little bit and look for a particular face in the crowd. Yes, that is Stefano Domenicali, the former Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1 team principal. As a brief refresher, Domenicali succeeds Stephan Winkelmann at the helm of the Lamborghini brand. After Domenicali was appointed Lamborghini CEO, the VW Group announced that Winkelmann is the new head honcho of quattro GmbH, the company that incorporates Audi Sport and the Audi Exclusive service.

The 5,000th unit is a Lamborghini Aventator LP 700-4 Roadster finished in Rosso Bia, a paint job that has been introduced on the hell-bent for leather LP 750-4 SV. An Italian gentleman has bought this car and ordered this paint, partly because Rosso Bia contains teeny-weeny gold particles to create a special shine under bright sunlight. Flamboyant? Definitely. That’s not a bad way to spend one’s hard cash, is it?

But then again, some Aventador customers spend more than others. Those I am referring to are the ones who paid top dollar for the Aventador-based Veneno (of which three coupe and nine roadster units were built) and the newly-launched Centenario. The latter is priced at 1.75 million euros or $1.95 million at the current exchange rates. For comparison’s sake, the regular Lamborghini Aventador costs $399,500.
