Lamborghini Aventador Exhaust Spits Flames, Sets Car on Fire in London

As if supercars didn’t burst into flames for no apparent reason often enough, the last few years have seen owners install flamethrower aftermarket exhaust and it was only a matter of time until one of these pieces set the car around it on fire.

This is precisely what took place earlier this month in London, with a Lamborghini Aventador going up in flames due to its exhaust’s fiery play. As you can see in the clip below, the owner revs the V12 to put on a show and the custom exhaust doesn’t fail to deliver the expected flames. Alas, the fire spreads to the engine compartment, but the most interesting part is that nobody seems to care about this.

There were quite a few car spotters in the area, including the one who captured this footage, but it took a little while until somebody tried to put out the fire with a jacket. The man failed and, to our surprise, the driver wasn’t too concerned.

In fact, the man drove away, turned and accelerated, as if he would’ve thought that is was a proper way to fight the fire. The driver does stop and get out of the car at a certain point, but the footage stops and we don’t get to see how the fire was extinguished. Nonetheless, the uploader of the clip, Munch997, explains the owner reported only minor damage.

It had to happen in London

When it comes to Europe, Monaco is definitely the supercar capital, but the go-fast machine population in London is certainly fighting for a place on the podium. The only issue is that many of these drivers tend to take things too far, showing reckless driving or making way too much noise for the city to bear. Their actions are denting the reputation of the entire supercar scene and negative reactions are starting to pile up. For instance, notice the adjacent clip doesn’t allow comments...

What’s the deal with the fiery exhausts?

Just like in the case of another trend that has really taken up, namely the popping exhausts, the fire play happens when unburned petrol is intentionally thrown out of the cylinders and reaches the exhaust.

In order for this to happen, the exhaust must reach a certain temperature, which is achieved after serious throttle work. Certain stock exhausts also offer this, such as that of the Aventador or those on McLarens, but the aftermarket ones obviously take things to a whole new level. Sometimes, a ridiculous level...
