Lamborghini Announces Record Sales in Detroit: 2,530 Units Delivered in 2014

Volkswagen Group is for now the unofficial global leader in terms of car sales, stepping in front of Toyota and GM. Lamborghini's supercars may not have contributed that much to the big, 10-million-strong number, but the mighty bulls are like the crowning jewel of VW's achievements.

Sant'Agata Bolognese didn't have anything interesting to show at 2015's Detroit Auto Show, having spent their powder in Paris last year with the Asterion LPi 910-4 Hybrid. However, they did make an important announcement: record sales.

Throughout 2014, Lamborghini has managed to sell 2,530 new supercars using 130 dealers in 48 countries.

''In 2014, Lamborghini delivered a very satisfying performance, confirming again the strength of our brand, product and commercial strategy,'' said Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A.

Largely responsible for the increased sales is the Huracan, which seems to be a home run. The new V10 model has been introduced successfully to the markets worldwide collecting more than 3,300 orders since its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show 2014. So far, only 1,137 orders have been honored and the company is in no hurry to turn into a mass production machine.

Demand shows no signs of slowing down and it appears to be even more successful than the Gallardo it replaced. We'll remind you that with a total of 14,022 units delivered in a little over a decade, the Gallardo is the most successful Lamborghini ever made. The Huracan has received demand for quarter of that in just one year.

When we tested the Huracan LP 610-4 last year, company officials told us they are experiencing huge amounts of emotional buying decisions. People are ordering them simply based on looks, sometimes without even driving one.

The twelve-cylinder model continued to perform well. Throughout 2014, the Aventador LP 700-4 in both, Coupé and Roadster version, was delivered to customers in 1,128 units, an increase of 13 percent. This was a record year for any V12 model in the company's history.
