Even though their cars are among the hottest on the road, Lamborghini's supercars have been conspicuously missing from the track. To some degree, this hurts their reputation, even though the company's founder was against everything race cars stood for.
Based on the 2013 model year Gallardo, Sant'Agata Bolognese has just announced a new racing car called the Gallardo GT3 FL2. To make it track-worthy, they've added fade-resistant brakes, new aero components, improved cooling for the V10 engine and some of the components from the Super Trofeo to save weight.
“We are delighted to announce a minimum five-year agreement with Reiter Engineering as our exclusive development and supply partner for Lamborghini GT3 cars”, said CEO Stepahn Winkelmann. “We are committed to supporting racing in Europe and Asia in 2013 with expansion to the USA in 2014.”
The cars will be sold to customers participating in this year's Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Endurance Series and the Italian GT3 championshi. Models are priced at €320,000 before tax ($432,000).
