Lamborghini performed a little case of “reverse engineering” on the Huracan Super Trofeo EVO and GT3 EVO racers to breed life into the STO, possibly the last naturally-aspirated V10 incarnation of the series. And a glorious one, for sure.
The new Super Trofeo Omologata, hence the Huracan STO moniker, has arrived at the supercar party with interesting traits. It has the driver-oriented, harder-to-control RWD setup of the base Huracan, but also packs street-legal racer DNA, lightweight ideas, as well as enhanced aerodynamics.
Not to mention the sound coming from the naturally aspirated V10 mill, which churns out 640 ps/630 hp just like the Performante and EVO. All ponies get sent to the rear wheels alone, but it’s still capable to hit 62 mph in three seconds flat, 200 kph/124 miles in exactly nine seconds, as well as “just” 310 kph/193 mph. All of these numbers were achieved under ideal conditions, of course.
But we all know the real world is anything but perfect. So, good folks such as the ones behind the AutoTopNL channel on YouTube have taken a habit out of checking up (with GPS-based professional apps) these OEM assumptions on the limitless stretches of Germany’s Autobahn.
Naturally, everything starts in the most traditional way possible. The sketchy performance card makes way for an extensive (in this case) V10 soundcheck, followed by a few quick fly-bys to put the Huracan STO into the proper perspective. Then, from the 2:14 mark, it’s time for a quick acceleration (zero to 100 kph/62 mph is done in 3.19s) to around 299 kph/186 mph.
By the way, don’t miss the humorous moment from the 2:05 mark when a pack of cows is rightfully impressed by the “alpha bull’s” performance... We are going to refrain from any jokes, though, because the Huracan STO does prove its mettle, complete with roaring sound checks from inside the supercar (at 2:58) and above the highway (from the 4:28 mark).
And in between it also has a quick chance to impress us with an acceleration surge to 323 kph/201 mph – which casually translates to 306 kph/190 mph, according to the on-board GPS measurement device.
