Just when many thought the LaFerrari madness was starting to calm down, it’s time for a new wave and this time we are talking about the track version of the hypercar, the LaFerrari XX. The Prancing Horse has already confirmed they’re working on the hardcore version of the LaFerrari and now we’ve spotted what is probably the test mule.
The hypercar test vehicle was recently caught in its natural habitat, the Nurburgring. Our photographers took the... time to clock a hot lap and it seems that the LaFerrari XX finished the Nordschleife job in 6:35.

The LaFerrari XX is not a street legal car, so it doesn’t battle our “common” heroes. Nonetheless, if the aforementioned time is correct, the vehicle is up for a new record, surpassing the 6:47.5 time set by the Pagani Zonda R in 2010. We also have a video of the LaFerrari XX in action and the thing sounds awesome.

The first things that draw attention are the exposed carbon fiber body panels. These are accompanied by windows which have been replaced by lighter polycarbonate units. What’s more, the prototype was wearing Pirelli rubber that differs from the road-going model’s tires.

As for what goes on under the super-light skin, Antonello Coletta, who leads Ferrari’s Sporting Activity Department (this focused on all motorsport efforts outside F1) explained the focus of the engineers. Since the LaFerrari comes with a 950 hp hybrid setup, this offers a wider range of tweaking possibilities compared to conventional gasoline-only vehicles.

Thus, the engineers will concentrate on adapting the setup for the track rather than increasing power, which is already sufficient. Of course, this tweaking also applies to the rest of the vehicle. The LaFerrari XX will also feature additional downforce via new aerodynamic elements.

The suspension will also be revised, while the car will be wearing racing slicks. On top of that, the tons of electronic systems present on the hypercar will be recalibrated.

The LaFerrari XX is currently in the early development stages, but the Italian job (no pun intended) could be finished in time for next year’s Geneva Motor Show.

We’re expecting the LaFerrari XX to play by the usual Prancing Horse customer racing rules. This means that the company handles the cars, while owners are allowed to drive them at various events across the world.
