While the “regular” LaFerrari is still running tests on Ferrari’s Fiorano track, the hypercar recently put on a set of quite unusual clothes for such a session. Forget the camouflage of the prototype in the adjacent video, what matters here is it’s heart, a turbocharged unit.
Yes, the LaFerrari was recently spied testing with a turbo engine, as confirmed by the boost pressure release sounds in the clip. The hypercar was seen lapping the Fiorano circuit while wearing a very nice hat - notice the roof scoop on top of the LaFerrari.
While many jumped to the conclusion that the Prancing Horse was out testing its 2014 V6 turbo F1 engine, we beg to differ. First of all, the powerplant we’re hearing here may sound like it’s revving pretty high, but we expect the F1 hardware to produce a more... ahem... apocalyptic soundtrack, simply because its redline will sit in a stratospheric area.
Rumors about Ferrari turning to turbocharged power for road cars are closer and closer to becoming a reality, so this is more likely to be one of their upcoming forced induction road engines, probably also a V6 like the one they’ll use in F1.
