Anybody can race a LaFerrari against a McLaren 650S Spider. You simply go out, buy the two as toy cars and then introduce them to the tiles of your kitchen floor. Well, how about a race between the two that takes place the other way around?
We know, that sounds a bit complicated but bare with us and it will all become clear. We’re talking about a LaFerrari vs McLaren 650S Spider battle that took place at a recent event in the UK called Vmax, it’s just that the video below brings us a rather unusual view on the race.
Since the footage was captured from a helicopter, it all looks like the go-fast machines are mere cars rolling down a carpet in a child’s bedroom. Nevertheless, the race was as serious as they get, highlighting the difference between an exceptional supercar and a hypercar.
In fact, we’ve talked about this example of the 950 hp (963 PS) LaFerrari, when we showed you the Maranello machine racing a Koenigsegg Agera N during the same event. This means the LaF and the 641 hp (650 PS) McLaren went head to head on a two-mile runway. Of course, this means they also needed deceleration space, so the actual race was shorter than that.
And since we’re talking toys, we’ll mention the helicopter that assisted the two machines is a Robinson R44. This is the kind of four-seat flying machine that can hit 150 MPH (240 KM/H) and has a range of just under 350 miles (560 KM). Its price? About one and a half McLarens (650S Spider), or north of $400,000.
