Ladies laying the hammer down behind the handlebars of a motorcycle are a sight that is as rare as it is spectacular. Still, we've met women with both the guts and the skills needed to set off for a two-wheeled adventure, so we can only cheer RawHyde Adventures' initiative.
Their new project is aimed at providing women with the basic training for adventure riding. RawHyde Marketing Director Jenny Smith adds that there have been multiple requests from ladies seeking adventure training experience in motorcycling, but who felt a bit uncomfortable with the prospect of taking part in the same classes with the guys.

So RawHyde, who operates two BMW Off-Road Riding Academies in California and Colorado came up with the idea of women-only adventure riding classes, great for boosting a bit the attendants' confidence and also serving as an ideal "girls only" type of fun.

Attendants can bring their own bikes or rent BMWs from RawHyde

Ladies attending these classes can bring in their own motorcycles or can rent their "school bikes" from RawHyde. Multiple BMW models are available for the task and they range from 650cc to 1200cc, so there is plenty to choose from, regardless of preferences or level of confidence.

One of the (other) cool things about these ladies-only courses is that the curriculum will not be different from that used for male riders. A Pre-Training Clinic is also available, a special program for new riders, familiarizing them with multiple aspect of what adventure riding and these bikes stand for. The Clinic size is limited and adding it to the program costs $325. It looks like the Clinic is free for those who rent bikes for the weekend.

The curriculum includes training in the following skills:

  • Body positioning for off-road riding
  • Clutch, throttle, and brake control
  • Weight-shifting techniques for steering the bike
  • Balance techniques
  • Turning the bike using counterbalancing
  • Obstacle avoidance
  • Front and rear wheel skids
  • Hill climbs and descents
  • Sand and gravel techniques
  • How to recover from a stall on a steep hill
  • How to turn around a fully loaded bike on a steep hill.

The first dates for 2016 are November 4-6, but we can vouch that more will be added to the calendar if ladies appreciate it. The price is yet TBA.
