France's Groupe Renault has just introduced its newly minted (and quirkily named) “Renaulution” business model. Aside from the obvious Renault plans (and some EV love from Alpine), the main news has to do with the creation of a new Dacia-Lada unit.
Renault's empire is in need of saving, there's no doubt about it. We’re not the ones saying it, because the French automaker’s first phase of the new masterplan is called “Resurrection” - and it’s not talking about a new installment in the long-running Resident Evil horror survival franchise.
But the folks from Renault do have a new strategic roadmap, which includes a “shift from volume to value.” By now, we have already seen what’s in store for the Renault, Alpine, and Dacia brands. Now it’s time to find out the plans stemming from big ol’ Russia.
AvtoVAZ, which is being tasked to continue “its transformation to become a world-class effective and competitive automotive manufacturer” will join Romanian manufacturer Dacia in the creation of the new Dacia-Lada business unit, where it will see more industrial synergies, make ample use of the “cost competitive and flexible CMF-B platform,” and continue on the path to “the highest local integration ratio.”
That’s all nice and dandy, but how about the product plans, considering that Groupe Renault has announced that Dacia will start using just one architecture instead of four, while also dropping from 18 to 11 body types? According to the shared info, customers shouldn’t be concerned.
Lada will introduce four all-new models by 2025, including a new model that will cater to the compact segment clients and an all-new generation of the no-frills Niva off-roader, which has already been teased in the image you see on your screens. The bad news is fans will need to wait until 2024 to see it come to life, though.
As such, there’s little information, although the Russian automaker does confirm the new Niva will usher a new era for the Lada brand alongside its new sibling Dacia. The new business unit is targeted for expansion beyond the two brand's current reach on a truly global scale.
