Back in 1966, Fiat introduced the 124 model, a mid-sized family sedan, a vehicle that entered the history books not for what it did under the Italian carmaker’s badge, but by serving as the base for the first LADA car, the 2101.
The Russian carmaker, which is also known as VAZ or AutoVAZ (modern day name) in its country, also exported the vehicle to Western states, offering it as a basic means of transportation. In 1980, the vehicle was replaced by the Lada Riva (VAZ-2107), which was actually a serious facelift for it.
Well, the 2107 has now reached the end of its life, with production having ended earlier this week, as the Russian carmaker's Izhavto factory are preparing for fresher models. We’re usually sad when offering you this kind of news, but we really can’t feel sorry for the fact that you can’t enter a showroom in 2012 and buy a vehicle that was originally engineered in the 60s’.
