LA Dodgers Manny Ramirez’s Porsche Auctioned Off for Charity

Stars often donate their personal belongings in charity purposes, and Dodger outfielder Manny Ramirez is one of them. The baseball player has donated a rare Porsche Turbo to be auctioned off for charity, with the proceeds from the online auction to be split between ThinkCure!, the Dodgers' official charity, and Maryvale, a local residential placement home for girls formerly known as The Los Angeles Orphan Asylum.

A nine-time Silver Slugger, and one of 25 people to have hit over 500 career home runs, Ramirez was the one who wanted the proceeds to be shared with a center that specifically helps displaced children.

The car in question is a 1994 red Porsche 911 Turbo coupe with grey leather interior that has logged just 34,569 miles. It is powered by a turbocharged version of the 3.6 litre M64 engine that produces 360 hp. The 3.6 litre powered Turbo was produced only for model year 1993/1994, with fewer than 1,500 of them produced in total.

ThinkCure! recently completed its third annual ThinkCure! Weekend which raised more than $400,000 and the Dodgers' official charity has already raised more than $3 million dollars for collaborative research to cure cancer since its inception less than three years ago.

The innovative, community-based non-profit organization was launched in July 2007 by the Los Angeles Dodgers, the McCourt family, City of Hope and Childrens Hospital Los Angeles.

The online auction will take place at www.thinkcure.org/manny starts today and runs through Monday, July 12 .
